to all the Fathers out there.
Writing this early - as...
We gave Mike the best present ever - we surprised him yesterday with the news that we were heading up to New Melones - staying the night, and then today spending all day, Fathers Day, on the lake wakeboarding, swimming and generally having a blast!
It is the first time we have been up there boating for nearly 2 years - as all of last year was a wash with his bicep repair.
We had everything ready including lots of homemade yummies to eat on the boat - and taking him to the movies up in Angels Camp (or Sonora) tonight.
We will all have a blast!!
hope you all have a wonderful day and Santa brings all that you wanted.
We had a wonderful day - 17 of us here for lunch. First time we have all been together on Christmas Day in over 15 years - it is hard when we live in different countries.
Boxing Day here now - and we will be going to some sales so the kids can spend their gift cards and money.
Loving the summer weather - long days and lots of sunshine. Already getting very brown just by being out and about.
Having lunch at my brothers girlfriends restaurant today and the rest of the week we have picnics planned and a day in Hanmer Springs!
I do not know where the years have flown to - and can hardly believe this day has come!
Love you very very much - you have grown into a beautiful young woman!!
Today is going to be lots of fun - with your *full english breakfast* to start as ordered by you.
I imagine there will be dips in the pool as the forecast is HOT HOT HOT.
Then tonight, cheese fondue and chocolate fondue for dinner with lots of family and friends.
Of course what would be a birthday for you with out lolly cake - but as it is your 21st you ordered that AND Pavlova - so we will all be on a diet on Friday!~
Of course I would be remiss if I did not also wish Happy Birthday to Mike Skinner who is celebrating his 21st today as well - for the 20th time. Lovely to have you staying with us for your shared birthday with Cait - and yes you can blow out some candles too!

Last weekend I finally got a chance to go to the Alameda Point Antiques Fair. It is on the first Sunday of every month and I have been trying to get there for years!! However, I either forget it is the first Sunday or I have something else on at the same time. But finally last weekend - the planets aligned and I got to go!
Mike and I made a long date of it - and actually drove up to Alameda the night before so we could get an early start and not deal with traffic. We had a lovely night. Stayed at a local hotel and went out to dinner at a super restaurant up there - East Ocean - it was YUMMO. I highly recommend it!
After dinner we went back to the hotel and lounged around in the hotel spa pool which was also very enjoyable. We had an early night (helped along by dinner and the warm spa) as we wanted to be up bright and early.
Next morning we jumped up and took advantage of the free brekkie at the hotel and then set off. The fair has several opening times - dictated by price. We had planned to be there a little earlier than we were cos even by 8.30am this was the line to get to the carpark. I was just thankful we were not coming up the highway and through the tube.
I add here - once we got to the carpark - we were parked in Row BB and it started at A. The carparking area is so huge - they actually run a shuttle to the front! Got to the front, got the ticket and away we went.
Insert large OOOOHHHHHHHHHH - I was in 7th heaven.
It is so big you cannot see the back rows. We spent the whole day there until it closed and we hardly even touched the surface. We did rows at the front up to G and then skipped a bit and did some of the back. I will DEFINITELY BE GOING BACK - I wish it was on every weekend! It was a gorgeous day - and we both got very sunburned! So do you want to see what I bought?
First up a German weathervane - I am thrilled with this - it is almost idential to the one my grandmother had - that now hangs in my parents house.
Then I could not believe my eyes when I spied this cast iron gem iron - woo hoo - I can throw out my yukky aluminium one now! And make YUMMY ginger gems!
sone antique industrial spools
A set of bone handled knives that were a steal - and I don't think they have ever been used!
Old glass insulators - not a chip in them ( I got two) and only $2 which was a bargain cos everywhere else at the fair they were $10+
Gorgeous old BIG keys
2 bags of lavender in antique french linen
Adore this - it is a chinese clock and as it ticks around the little bird bobs up and down
A lead frog for my flowers!
Beautiful planter for my garden
And another one - love this - very francais!
Now up until this stage we had done well and probably had only spent $100 or just under ...
but then....
I bought this french bottle drying rack *swoon*. No I am not going into the wine business - I am using this to hold all the spools of ribbon that I sell by the yard. It is perfect!! have the ribbon on there and it looks fantastic!... oops went over the $100
and our last purchase of the day??? Was also the most expensive. But it was worth every penny. Plus they knocked $75 off it.
This antique Austrian bench from the 1800's. LOVE LOVE LOVE. It is huge - would easily seat 5. We are going to strip it down and depending on the state of the wood underneath either stain it or paint it again. Initially I did not like the *feature* on the back that someone has put on it - but it is growing on me!
All in all the bestest time and I can't wait to go back!
We all make them.
We all break them.
You got to know when to hold 'em, know when to fold 'em; Know when to walk away, know when to run.. WHAT?? get outta here Kenny.. wrong song.. and I don't even like country music. Anyway... as I was saying. This year I have lots of things I want to do/change/be/start/end etc. So instead of standing there at midnight making rash promises - I have spent the last couple of days making a board.
So I present - My 2011 Resolution Board
I took a large piece of tin (left over from an old project) and punched a couple of holes (good ole cropadile) and hung it by wire. Because the edges of the tin were a tad sharp, I wrapped the edges with 7gypsies tape. Over each hole where the wire came through I put two buttons as added stability to stop the wire pulling back - and as luck would have it I had two buttons with the #1 on them so it is for Year 11! Then I grabbed some el cheapo wooden pegs and glued magnet strips on to the back of each one (which came with a message board and will never be used). Then I painted the pegs in different colours.
Peridot - Daily
Periwinkle - Weekly
Aquamarine - Monthly
Red - Year
Then I set to, and made the actual resolutions for each peg. Some are just visuals, some are words, some are a combination. Scrappy items came in handy here! The whole time I was making it - I was thinking about all the things that I wanted - and even before it was finished - I had/have already started to implement some of them. This is hanging in my little office area so everytime I walk in and out I see it.
So here is a close up of the different areas.
These are things I want to change on a daily basis.
I found some fun images in a recent magazine and some I had on my computer.
No that is not moisturiser on the moisturise label but liquid pearls - looks realistic though!!
My personal fave - Stop letting it - with the visual of time slipping through my fingers
In making the actual board - I already started on the save money part by using items I already had. You might laugh at the "dressed before 9am" - but let me tell you - working for yourself from home, it is so easy some days to get up and start working - and suddenly it is nearly lunchtime and you are still in your jimjams!! Enough I say!
The 2lbs down goal - that is my minimum - I think I can do better - but that is my weekly aim.
Some of the exercise goals will change to daily.
The SWIM is swimming don't you think?
Fix Something refers to the house. We all have little jobs that need a bit of DIY - that always seem to get put off - no more!!
My poor old Vespa has not been ridden in yonks. With the way petrol is flying up - I need to get back in the saddle!
1 layout a month might seem paltry - but as I have done NONE layouts a month over the past year, well!! It seems as though since I started *working* in the scrap industry my own scrapping has become a thing of the past!
Something for me - a little AB FAB dahling - or a little putting me first. Might be as a simple as a pedicure, or lunch with friends, or as involved as a weekend away.
I am changing my albums up - pulled the layouts all out over a year ago - they still sit... sadly waiting for a new home.
DATES!! I want some!! Not just a night at the movies either!
These are goals I want reached in 2011.
The bath - that actual bath (and tap) is sitting in our garage - in a box - waiting to be installed.
We bought it last year along with a new basin unit.
We want to totally redo the main bathroom which is 70's kitsch small YUK horrible nasty.
It is going to be a big job - everything ripped out - along with an adjoining wall (cupboard) to make the room bigger, and a skylight pushed through - as it is an interior room and dark as a coalmine with the lights off. But this year it is HAPPENING!
I love the font for learning something new - and I know what it is I want to learn - and no I am not fessing up. The other image is very self explanatory and I won't be commenting!
So there you have it - the Board. I am thinking this should be the topic for the layout I do for this month! I have a few other items to go on the board - need more pegs - and over the year some of the items will change their status to daily, weekly, monthly. Some will be bumped up (exercise) and some will be bumped down (dig photos) as situations change or get completed.
